Mosquitoes

Mosquito control is important. Some mosquitoes are harmful and can spread viruses like West Nile, dengue, Zika, and parasites like malaria. Other mosquitoes bother people and are considered “nuisance” mosquitoes.

The McCormick Ranch Maintenance Department conducts daily inspections for mosquitoes and takes necessary steps to eliminate current or potential issues.

As members of the Association, you can assist in the abatement of mosquitoes by:

  • Contacting the Association immediately if you notice an area where mosquitoes are currently breeding or could breed if unaddressed. Call the office at 480-860-1122, ext. 200, email admin@mrpoa.com, report it through the Association mobile app or send a text to 602-757-2066 after hours. Be sure to include the location and provide a photo when possible.
  • Remove standing water where mosquitoes lay eggs within your own property – clean up and empty containers, once a week, empty and scrub, turn over, cover, or throw out any items that hold water like tires, buckets, planters, toys, pools, birdbaths, flowerpot saucers, or trash containers and fill tree holes to prevent them from filling with water.
  • Use larvicides to treat large bodies of water that will not be used for drinking and cannot be covered or dumped out. (When using larvicides, always follow label instructions.)
  • Spray adulticides outdoors to kill adult mosquitos where they rest – such as dark humid areas under patio furniture or in your garage.
  • Report your neighbors green or murky pools to Maricopa Vector Control using their online complaint form here, or call 602-506-0700, and email or call the Association office so we can reach out to the owner and send a non-compliance notice allowing us to follow-up. (mrpoacompliance@mrpoa.com or 480-860-1122, ext. 201)
  • Report standing water in City parks and right-of-ways, standing water caused by a neighbor’s landscape issue (over-watering, etc.), neighbor’s green pool and/or other unaddressed standing water issue not in Association common area on the City of Scottsdale Code Enforcement website here.

Together, with the County and City of Scottsdale, we will make sure our community is a safe and enjoyable place to live!
