New flight patterns out of Sky Harbor Airport have caused noise concerns for Scottsdale residents. MRPOA received information from Mayor Lane’s office regarding the new flight patterns recently implemented by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“The FAA has refused to revert to the procedures that were in place before last September, they’ve expressed willingness to explore adjustments to mitigate noise issues. The Mayor has asked the FAA to review the timing, location, and intensity of throttle-up for departing flights, as well as three specific departing flight paths that were routed further east over largely uninhabited areas before the NextGen changes were put in place.
Congressman Schweikert’s office also informed the Mayor that as part of the Congressional 2015 Appropriations Acts, the FAA has been directed to identify mitigation measures and enforce adherence to flight procedures to avoid impacts on residential neighborhoods. They are expected to report to the House and Senate Committees on Appropriations on these measures in the next 2-3 months.”
The two main FAA administrators involved in this issue are Michael Huerta and Glen Martin. Their information can be found below. It is recommended that you take a moment and write or call these Administrators if you would like to see adjustments in the flight patterns from Sky Harbor. The MRPOA Board will continue to update the Community on any updates received. Please check the MRPOA website and Facebook page regularly for any updated information.
